About Us

Set on the edge of Lily Creek Lagoon, Lily Lagoon Resort is Kununurra’s only Indigenous-owned resort, offering a relaxed lakeside stay in the heart of the Kimberley.

Originally acquired by the Wunan Foundation in 2019 as the former Kununurra Lakeside Resort, the site has been transformed into what is now Lily Lagoon Resort — a unique social enterprise dedicated to creating training, employment and economic opportunities for Aboriginal people in the East Kimberley.

Today, guests can experience a range of accommodation options to suit the way they travel, from recently renovated rooms to spacious caravan and camping sites set on the water’s edge. Whether you’re visiting for work, travelling through the region, or enjoying a Kimberley getaway, the resort offers a welcoming place to stay, dine and unwind in a peaceful, natural setting.

Redevelopment and Recently Renovated Rooms

Lily Lagoon Resort represents a significant transformation of the original Lakeside Resort, reopening under a new name and full Aboriginal ownership — the first of its kind in the remote Kimberley region. The property, acquired by Wunan Foundation in 2019 for $2.7 million, has since undergone a major redevelopment to create a modern, culturally grounded destination.

A $9.5 million upgrade has delivered a range of new and improved facilities, with more on the way in the coming years. The transformation has placed the guest experience at the centre of an Aboriginal cultural tourism offering, while also creating meaningful employment opportunities for local Aboriginal people across tourism, hospitality, administration and maintenance.

As part of this broader redevelopment, our guest rooms were recently renovated in 2026 to improve comfort, functionality and overall quality. These updated rooms provide a fresh, modern space for guests to recharge, while staying connected to the relaxed pace and natural beauty of the Kimberley.

A Wunan Foundation Social Enterprise

Lily Lagoon Resort is proudly a social enterprise of the Wunan Foundation, meaning every stay contributes to something much bigger than accommodation.

Wunan Foundation is dedicated to creating real opportunities for Aboriginal people across the East Kimberley, and the resort plays an active role in this mission. Through Lily Lagoon, we support meaningful employment, skill development and long-term career pathways within the local community.

Our Brand Story

We gratefully acknowledge artist Jan Griffiths for the use of her artwork in the Lily Lagoon Resort logo and branding.

The artwork depicts a comb-crested Jacana walking across the lily pads of Lily Creek Lagoon, reflecting the natural environment and stories of Country that surround the resort. The branding was developed in collaboration with local artists, forming an important part of the resort’s identity as a culturally grounded destination.

Supporting Indigenous Training and Employment

We specialise in Indigenous training and education for the tourism and hospitality industries, delivered under the New Jobs Trial Program for the National Indigenous Australians Agency.

Through this program, Lily Lagoon Resort provides hands-on experience, structured training and supported pathways into employment. From front-of-house roles through to kitchen and operational positions, participants gain practical skills that help build confidence and long-term career opportunities within the region.

Our approach is grounded in creating sustainable outcomes, ensuring that opportunities stay local and benefit the community for years to come.

A Place to Stay Connected to Community and Culture

Lily Lagoon Resort offers an authentic Indigenous tourism experience grounded in community, culture and connection to Country.

Guests can enjoy local flavours through our dining experiences, with regular themed nights that celebrate regional ingredients and Kimberley-inspired recipes. The resort also hosts art showcases, cultural activations and community events that bring people together and create a deeper connection to place.

We’re proud to support local creative industries, including hosting the launch of Tjarrambayi Arts, an Aboriginal-owned gallery and cultural tourism enterprise, bringing together artists, community members and visitors to share stories, artwork and culture.

Our Aboriginal staff are at the heart of the guest experience, offering genuine hospitality, local knowledge and a strong sense of cultural connection that shapes every stay.
