The Wunan Foundation will soon unveil the exciting new Garrjang Functions Centre at Lily Lagoon Resort, enhancing the organisation’s capacity to host community and corporate events while providing a dedicated venue for training and development in the East Kimberley.
This project follows a recent announcement from the Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation (ILSC), which has approved $914,650 (inc. GST) in capital works funding to construct the new facility, that has been designed to support both economic and community outcomes.
Wunan Foundation CEO, Prue Jenkins, welcomed the announcement:
“This funding will significantly enhance the resort’s capacity, improve long-term sustainability, and strengthen our ability to deliver meaningful training and employment opportunities for Indigenous people across the Kimberley.”
Overlooking the stunning Lily Lagoon, Wunan has already begun putting plans in motion for the first of many events to be held at the new functions space. An Indigenous feast is scheduled for the 25th of June at the newly refurbished restaurant and dining spaces, which will be complemented by storytelling around the firepit, and potential performances from Waringarri dancers, as well as local Indigenous musicians and artists.
Ray Lennox, General Manager of the Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation, said:
“We look forward to seeing the great opportunities unlocked through this project and the benefits that will flow to Indigenous people in the Kimberley.”
The Wunan Foundation extends its sincere thanks to the ILSC for their support in helping bring the Garrjang Café and Function Centre to life, and for their ongoing commitment to Aboriginal-led enterprise and regional development in northern Australia.
