History of the Resort
Lily Lagoon Resort began a new chapter in 2019, when the Wunan Foundation acquired the former Kununurra Lakeside Resort for $2.7 million. The acquisition marked an important step in Wunan’s commitment to creating sustainable economic opportunities and supporting Aboriginal people across the East Kimberley.
Under Wunan’s ownership, the property has been transformed into Lily Lagoon Resort, combining accommodation and tourism with a broader social purpose. The vision is to create a welcoming destination for visitors while building local skills, supporting employment and contributing to the region’s economic future.
Investing in the Future
A $9.5 million redevelopment has been transforming Lily Lagoon Resort into a modern, welcoming destination that reflects the natural beauty and cultural significance of the East Kimberley.
As part of this investment, the guest rooms were renovated in 2026 to improve comfort, functionality and quality. The restaurant and dining area have also been upgraded, providing an enhanced experience for guests to relax, dine and enjoy the resort's unique lakeside setting.
These improvements form part of Wunan’s broader vision for a sustainable tourism business that delivers a quality visitor experience while creating training, employment and economic opportunities for Aboriginal people across the East Kimberley.
Looking Ahead: A New Conference Centre
The next chapter in the resort’s development will be the addition of a new on site conference and function centre, with construction scheduled to begin in 2027. The facility will expand the resort’s offering, creating opportunities to host conferences, functions, events and community gatherings in the distinctive setting of Lily Creek Lagoon.
In October 2026, the resort’s caravan and camping grounds were retired to make way for the new facility, marking an important step towards this next stage of growth.
As Lily Lagoon Resort continues to evolve, its purpose remains the same: to offer visitors a memorable Kimberley experience while creating meaningful opportunities for Aboriginal people and communities across the East Kimberley.
