Lily Lagoon has always been known for serving some of the best coffee in town, but last Sunday, that coffee came with an extra side of pride.
Shavanna, yes, the one with the friendly, slightly cheeky smile that all the regulars know and love, stepped up and ran the coffee station as Head Barista for the day.
Shavanna has handled quieter breakfast services before, but Sunday mornings at Lily Lagoon are a different story. With the orders rolling in and the coffee machine working overtime, it was time to put her skills to the test. And she absolutely smashed it.
Shavanna has been part of the RJED program and working in Front of House at Lily Lagoon for almost a year. Over that time, she has built her skills, grown in confidence and become a much-loved member of the team.
A huge shout-out also goes to Ari, who has been patiently teaching and training Shavanna along the way. That support has played a big part in helping her get to where she is today.
And Shavanna isn’t just building her own skills anymore. She’s now starting to mentor newer RJED participants as they begin their own journeys at Lily Lagoon.
Lily Lagoon General Manager Mark Summers said Shavanna’s willingness to keep learning and take on new challenges has made her a real inspiration within the team.
“She’s become a real trailblazer around here and is now starting to mentor the newer RJED participants. And because one skill set just isn’t enough for her, she’s also asked to learn the ropes in Reception so she can add even more tools to her employment toolkit, which is a wonderful testament to her.”
It’s these little wins that make us the proudest at Lily Lagoon. So next time you need your caffeine fix, pop down, say g’day to Shavanna, and help us train the next success story. Your coffee (and your support) means the world!
